aerial landscapes
The layers, lines and blocks of colour of this body of work speak to the landscape of my youth, near Malton Airport, at the west end of runway 23R.
Family backyards, nearby farms and orchards struggled to hold up against the noisy ambition of mid-century industrialization. Extended runways and widened highways called for expropriation and demolition.
With this body of work, paint and pieces from my past are laid on thick and textured- intuitively things are reclaimed and re-purposed and in my own way, I remember.
I feel passionate and grounded with this interpretation of my history.
The synchronicity of exhibiting “aerial landscapes” in this space, on this historic landmark is especially meaningful for me.
